to USA for a month meeting our partners overseas. Please pray for God's protection and journey mercies upon him and for the success of his trip in terms of publicity and fundraising for the Ministry. But please also pray for the wellbeing of these partners.
May God grant the team working on the FOCUS Strategic Plan speed and
wisdom in producing this document ahead of the FOCUS Annual General Meeting; now scheduled for June 29, 2008. Please take note of this date and do come for this meeting.

Dear beloved, Our God so faithful! Here at FOCUS, every new month is a testimony and a reason to thank God for the continuity of His work but also for the blessing of YOU!

Once again, let us make our requests known to Him and the peace of God which surpasses all human understanding will be with us. But that is not all, He answers when we call.
In this 6th edition of Prayer Page, let us focus on Missions.

What is Missions? Think about it? What is your understanding?
(You can give us feedback)

Please Pray for:

1) C.Us going for Missions. Even though Missions run throughout the year, usually May, June and July are months in which Mission work is at its peak. Please pray for safety, security and wisdom and right approaches in sharing the gospel. In the same respect, this season for us is one for training the different Mission groups so do pray for this exercise respectively as well. The C.Us expected to take part in this include the following:

Let us thank God for the Missions that have already taken place successfully this year i.e. Kyambogo University C.U mission to Nakasongola and Mulago Paramedical C.U mission to Gulu.

2) Mobilization, resources and impact of the Missions. Do pray that God sends the right students He has chosen for this work, for provision of resources and that the objectives of the Mission; of winning more souls for Jesus Christ shall be achieved.

3) Mission to Gulu. We are preparing to receive a team of 15 students and 2 staff from Intervarsity Christian Fellowship in USA to work with 15 students and 2 members of staff of FOCUS from April 31 – May 22, 2008. This team will work in the camps in Northern Uganda. On this very note, we hereby appeal to you to donate items for the people in the camps. We highly appreciate your endeavor to render assistance through us to the victims of the Northern conflict in the camps in Gulu.

Generator:

In Prayer Page 4 we had requested you to pray with us for 3 million for a generator. Well, we give thanks to God that we managed to raise the 3 million that we had asked people to pray for and we purchased a temporal 6kva generator for Easter Missions Camp. That made such a big difference. It meant that when UMEME went off we had alternative B. The long term plan is now that if we could purchase the rightful capacity for the Campsite (i.e15-18kva) then this 6kva will remain at the Head Office for times when we experience power cuts and perhaps to hire out as well.

Books Container:

Earlier in the year we asked you to pray for our Books container that was stuck in Mombasa but now we gladly announce that the books have arrived. Praise be to God who answers our prayers. We now have new books in stock at attractive prices. Please find time and come restock your library. We have the best rates in town (Honestly). Our bookshop is located at the Head office and is open from 9-5pm during weekdays.

ANNUAL EASTER MISSIONS CAMP

The students Easter Missions Camp went very well and we are thankful to the Lord for He provided for the Camp expenses to be met. The camp which was under the theme: ‘Whom Shall I send’ was well attended by over 200 students. A good number turned up especially from upcountry. We even had students from Gulu University and Bishop Barham University (the students from this University were actually sponsored by their guild office & Chaplaincy – isn’t that wonderful!) God is definitely reaching out beyond the C.U leader.

We were drenched in rain on Easter Sunday since it rained the whole day but amazingly, the students remained in the tents and continued raising their questions and comments as we discussed the hot topic on MALE FEMALE RELATIONSHIPS. Michael & Faith Okongo (Tororo Associates) steered the discussions and they did a fabulous job. From listening to the discussion, it was interesting and sometimes saddening to note how CU dynamics on relationships have really changed. It was evident that many of the rules which used to be black and white for us have now become grey areas. The need to emphasize relationships that are biblically correct is immense.

We highly appreciate the following Associates for their wisdom and availability during this time! i.e Micheal & Faith Okongo, Mr. Dennis Kilama (all the way from Nairobi), Mr. & Mrs. Achila, Mr.Stephen Kasamba & the MDD team, Mr.John Gita, Mr.Alfred Edakasi, Pr. Godson Ssebuguzi, Dr. & Mrs. Nabugoomu, Mr.Idembe Peter, Thank you dears!

We also want to thank all other associates who visited and attended the sessions. It was humbling to see you sacrifice a precious weekend to be there. Thank too for all the generous donations towards the Camp costs. We are grateful for your contribution. Every little shilling makes a difference in Ministry work. May the Almighty God encourage you and uplift you daily.

AGM

We are now getting ready for the AGM which is on Sunday 27th April. This year will be National Council Elections during which the current team will dissolve and new members will be elected to provide Leadership and guidance for the Ministry from 2008-2010.

Please pray that the Lord will draw to these positions the right people. People who have the passion and commitment to this ministry and are ready to be available with their time and resources. It is a great call and therefore PRAY!

Let us together pray for the right people. Also make sure you are a paid up member because only paid up members are entitled to vote. So get paid up now 5000/= only Pray for the mobilization and resources we need for a successful AGM.

VARIETY SALE

Next month our plan as a Department is to have a Variety Sale at the end of May to raise funds through selling donated items so that we can meet the production costs for our Newsletter. This part of the Ministry which is directly related to my office heavily affects all parts. I have found it the most challenging area which has suffered the most because of sometimes financial constraints but also because I had at times gotten my priorities wrong. Our target is 6 million UGX so I’m asking you please:-

· Prayerfully lift my Department up in Gods hands and as we plan
this fundraising event we pray that the Lord in His mercy will open up doors for finances.

We need items ranging from automobiles, office equipment, home furnishings, kitchen ware, furniture, electronics, etc. We kindly ask that as a donor you double check what you are giving and make sure it is presentable in working condition and that it can be resold. Please kindly let us give as we would want to receive.

You can bring your donated items to FOCUS Head office in Mulago or call us to arrange for collection.

We also need Volunteers. People who will give time towards sorting and pricing items during the month. And those who can be available to do actual sales. Your coorperation is HIGHLY needed. Staff cannot do it alone. If we work together, we can achieve more.

It’s that time again, where we continue together we seek the Lord in prayer. Let us pray for the student work at FOCUS in relation to specific departments as follows:

Finance & Administration

We acquire a generator for the FOCUS Training and Camping Centre. This
generator costs up to 3,000,000= (three million shillings) only
For finances to meet staff monthly salaries

Literature Distribution

The debtors to the Books department may honor their out standings
Thank God for the safe arrival of New stock and ask Him for very good sales

Challenges most recently faced by Associates:

We have observed with sadness that during this lent season, most of our Associates have experienced difficulties such as the loss of dear ones, sickness and financial instabilities. We do not however despair about these challenges, for the word of God tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18, to pray without ceasing with thanksgiving. Let us therefore continue to pray that God’s compassion, healing and providence will abide in these families and with us all.

Over the years, we have been challenging University and College Students to have an impact in the community. Currently,across Uganda,majority CU students are actively involved in reaching out to the communities for Christ.

We want you to join us in giving thanks for:

2 newly launched Christian Unions in Nyamitanga Technical college in the West and Lira Laboratory Training Institute the North
The increasing enthusiasm among students in taking the gospel to rural communities of this country.
4 Volunteers who have joined us namely Andrew Serunjogi, Peter Agaba, Peninah Mirembe and Loyce Epiteru.
The just concluded Students inter-CU conference which took place in Fort Portal last weekend. Work in this area had been stalled for a while but there now is a great reawakening that has been registered this year
For the partnership we have with NKSS the Norwegian movement in which we have exchange visits for students.This year we sent 2 students, and inexchange received 4.

Please pray for:

On going planning process for the Annual Missions Camp that is scheduled for the Easter weekend starting Thursday 20th to Monday 24th March 2008. Specifically pray for:
- Mobilization process of Students and Associates across the country that it will be smooth and that they will confirm attendance in good time.
- Financial provision. Our budget is Ush.9,061,200 (US$ 5,330)
- The facilitators as they prepare to minister.That God will meet the participants in a special way and that He himself will prepare them for His work
- Wisdom & grace for staff worker Eddie Mukaaya who is at the forefront of organizing.
On going election process of Regional Committees in the five regional offices which are a key support structure for the work in the regions.
Inspiration and guidance for our Staff who are writing two Bible Study guides on the books of Acts and James.
Other students events which include a Care group leaders’ training summit in Kampala and a Leaders’ training summit in Gulu both taking place on 1st March.

We know many stories of people who have persisted in prayer without ceasing until they get an answer. The bible also teaches us that:

“When a believing person prays, great things happen”-James 5:16

Bear this in mind this year as you receive various requests for prayer.

Continue Praying for:

Peace to be restored in Kenya and for justice to prevail. The past 2 days have presented fresh outbursts of violence and more people are murdered while others displaced. Pray this current situation to end.
Continue praying for safe arrival of the FOCUS container of books that is still stuck in Mombasa. The ministry is heavily dependant on money from book sales.
For successful FOCUS book fares. Currently there is one in Bugema University. Pray for the staff in charge (Apollo & Ruth) and their team of volunteers.
For Paramedical C.U which is organizing a 5 day crusade beginning this weekend. Pray for many for receive the gift of salvation.
For resources to facilitate all upcoming FOCUS activities. We are currently in the early stages of organizing the Annual Missions Camp (20th -24th March) and FOCUS AGM (27th April)
For parents and children as schools and tertiary institutions resume it can be quite stressful and financially depleting. Pray for Gods provision of the necessities.

New beginnings give us the opportunity to start all over again, to do better at things that we did not give our best to previously.

New beginnings give us hope and remind us of God’s faithfulness and His mercies. Lam.3:23.

Make time this year in joining us to pray for the FOCUS Ministry.

Pray that:

God will give wisdom and discernment to the board, General Secretary and staff on what direction the Ministry should take this year and in the years to come.
For wisdom upon the staff on how to be relevant to students and graduates and how together we can respond to the various issues in our society.
For safe and speedy arrival of a container of books from Mombasa.
For a long term solution to the political situation in Kenya. Several FOCUS students, staff and graduates have been affected by the violence or displaced. One staff in Eldoret had her house and belongings burned to the ground, and is currently taking refuge in a Catholic Cathedral.

Give Thanks for:

2 (two) Volunteer staff who have joined us in the Communications Department; Peninah and Loice and another 2 (two) in the Training Department; Andrew and Peter.
Associates in the diaspora who raised over 2 (two) million shillings (USD 1,180) during the Christmas break towards staff salaries.

1. Let us give God thanks for the following:

Let us thank God for the 2007 Leadership Summit. The summit received a very good student turn up and national representation of C.U’s. Over 200 people attended and received the challenge on servant leadership.
Thank God for Maureen and Arnold who got married on November 10th 2007 Pray that God blesses their marriage. Maureen is our Staff worker at the Head Office front desk and it’s a joy to see her join the marriage institution.
Let us also give thanks to God for the Young timers get together that took place on November 11, 2007. Please pray for the family of Dr. & Mrs. Turitwenka that the Lord may continue to bless them.

2. Pray for the FOCUS Mulago Child Project:

We need sponsorship for 80 (eighty) children. It costs an annual amount of 450,000/= (250 USD) Pray for donors who are currently not sending support, but have expressed the interest to do so that the Lord may provide and also pray for more donors to fill the sponsorship capacity.
Pray for children whose parents are terminally ill. There are 17 (seventeen) ill parents altogether.
Please pray for personal spiritual growth for the staff in the Child Project and for God’s guidance, grace and wisdom.

3. Pray for Ministry work:

Please pray for finances for staff salaries before the year ends. We need a total of 20,350,000= (11,563 USD) towards staff salaries before the year ends of which 8,580,000= (5.362.5 USD) covers November & December 2007 while the balance is accumulated arrears. The exchange rate used here is 1600 and we have a total of 23 full time staff nationally.
Pray for student’s protection as they break off for the festive holidays and that the Lord will also safely return them to their institutions and universities thereafter.

Give Thanks

· For successful 35 years celebration events. We had a Grand Reunion, Corporate Dinner, Sweet hearts dinner, Old timers fellowships and church visits in Kampala, and church visits and conferences in the regions. These events did create quite a bit of awareness about FOCUS ministry. And some people recommitted themselves to being involved in the ministry.

· For all the people who were involved in making the events a success, the Associates, staff and students.

· A successful missions week at Mbarara University last month in which 10 students gave their lives to Christ.

· For Baby boys this month born to; Staff worker Sam Opolot and his wife Alice, Associates Godfrey and Dorothy Watendwa, and Charles and Rose Sokile.

Intercede For

· The upcoming leadership summit. 2nd – 4th November 2007 –Next Week!!

We praise God for this wonderful opportunity that staff, and many students come together to learn from God’s word on leadership.
Pray that all the students will be challenged, refreshed, inspired and encouraged by God’s word.

· The speakers doing expositions and workshops(Expositions will be from the book of Nehemiah, and the theme; Solid leadership)

· Financial provision

Intercede For

The campus missions week in September at the Mbarara University of Science and Technology. For students to meet Christ through this event.
A fruitful and impactful half day students conference in Arua slated for August.
Financial Provision for:
a) Office rent for our offices in Arua, Lira, and Mbale. And for suitable office space in Mbarara.
b) Conducting FATT trainings in the regions.
c) Staff salaries. We are looking for 100 people who can give 50,000 Shs. (US $ 30) a month towards staff salaries.
Joseph, Godfrey and Brian who need to find housing that will enable them to host groups of students for trainings and ministry.
Good health for the ATS especially for Godfrey and for Joseph who has been experiencing some unusual abdominal pains.
Plans for the 35 years of FOCUS celebrations. Each region will be planning an event to celebrate this.

Prayer is the first thing, the second thing, the third thing necessary to a minister. Pray, then my dear brother; pray, pray, pray. —EDWARD PAYSON

1. Pray for students.
Now is a time when most students are either taking their exams or getting ready to take their exams. Academic study can be hard for students who have to work part-time to pay their fees. Pray that Christians will (a) prioritise their work; (b) develop a Christian worldview. Pray for God to give us graduates who can influence their professions for good.

2. Pray for Staff.
Give thanks for the FOCUS Associate Trainers Teams (FATT) across the country. These teams of recent graduates volunteer so many hours a week to reaching students. There are 7 active such teams across the country and they provide a great staff presence on the campuses.

Pray that all staff will have a deeper relationship with God because it is out of this that they will be effective ministers to the students on the campuses. It sometimes gets dry spiritually for them – pray for renewal.

Nicholas our Central Region Training Secretary will be going for further studies in August this year. Pray for his plans as he needs to raise $1,473 towards his travel expenses, and for a smooth transition as he winds up. We are thankful for his hard work and this opportunity to study. He will be doing a Masters in Missions and Intercultural studies.

Godfrey our Eastern Region Training Secretary has a bad case of ulcers and appendicitis and may need surgery. Do pray for him.

3. Pray for Plans.
This year, FOCUS celebrates 35 years of student ministry. We are planning a number of activities to commemorate this beginning in September. Pray for all the people involved in the planning process and for the success of these events. We will keep you updated.

4. Pray for Financial Provision
Particularly pray that we will be able to bring all staff salaries up to date. Some staff have not received their salary for two months. We need Ug. Shs. 5,765,000= (US $ 3,603.10) every month for salaries. This has been a particularly difficult period financially.

Dear beloved friends of FOCUS,

I am very delighted to welcome you to this 6th Edition of the Focus Prayer Page!! We are in particular so happy that most of you have given us feedback that you read through the prayer page and you appreciate our efforts and for that, we thank you for the encouragement and we give Glory to God for your wonderful support and participation in the FOCUS Ministry events.

Strategic Planning Workshop
On the 8th to 10th March 2007, FOCUS organized a strategic planning workshop at Namirembe (NAREC). This process marked a major step in developing a FOCUS strategic plan for the coming five or so years. Associates’ Event (Nyama Choma)
On the 11th March 2007, a team of Kampala associates organized an associates’ event at the FOCUS head office, it was equally a great success as one hundred on 120 people attended.

The Revival of the Kampala Associates.
The Generational Gap between the Old and young associates to be bridged.
The next Associates’ Event as the committee decides on the official date of thenext meeting.

Karibuni Saana to this 5th edition of FOCUS prayer page!! We give great thanks to the Almighty God that an increasing number of you are actually reading the prayer page. It is always great to see 10 new readers and receive feedback from you. Please keep up with the good spirit! We want to see more of this.

If you haven’t yet sent me any feedback then ooow!... you’d better feel guilty and do it right now.

Thanks to all of you supporters for continuous prayer! We especially thank those who managed to fulfil their financial pledges in January and February.

On Sunday 18th.Feb. at least 52 FOCUS Associates gathered for a fantastic Nyama Choma (BBQ) at Dr. Charles Sokile’s residence in Bukoto. If you were not there, it is a pity that you missed out! Be prompt for the next one…11th March 2007.

VERY SPECIAL THANKS to Dr. Sokile and his entire family for hosting the event and catering for ALL the costs. This is a challenge to all of us. Such generosity and hospitality reminds us of the example of the early Christians in the book of Acts. They shared all they had and ministered to each other greatly. Thank you once again! We highly appreciate you and all you do in supporting the ministry.

We thank FATT members who helped with mobilizing and organizing the event. We especially thank Centson, Yusuf and Herbert for all their hard work and ensuring that Nyama was tasty. Thank you guys!

Four Facts 4 Prayer

Bible Conference – this runs from 4th -11th of February 2007. Pray especially for Nicholas Kalyebara our Training Secretary covering Central region of FOCUS Uganda . He is busy organizing the activities plus resources. - PRAY!
Kids Camp – Glory be to God ! The camp was a SUCCESS! It was an excellent time of fellowship & fun as over 100 children from 2 local projects; Kamokya & FOCUS Mulago project converged at the FOCUS campsite. The enthusiasm was infectious! Thanks to all prayer warriors, volunteers and staff who made time to be on site.
We hope that next time our menu of early morning jogging plus afternoon swimming will tempt you into coming to join us in the fun of this ministry. Our next camp is Missions camp (5th -9th April) same place! Water! Mosquitoes! Biblical teaching! & all good things you can think of when camping. So… book those dates from work and plan to be there!
New Sub-region - West Nile i.e Arua, Nebbi, Moyo, Adjumani, Koboko, Yumbe, is now a new FOCUS Sub-region with the regional offices based in Arua. Pray for the new staff worker Mr. Asali Joseph; Pray too for the ministry of FOCUS Band in Arua & all Associates that their impact, self iniatiative and good example will continue to grow and become contagious nationally. Remember students & Associates work in North, Central, West, & Eastern Regions -Pray!
Funding - the level of financial giving in January 2007 has been rather low. Probably we spent a lot of money on Christmas presents & New Year eats. We want to encourage you to pray for increase/revival in commitment and consistency from local & international donors regarding this crucial area that makes our work possible. It will be a great testimony to see generous financial giving in the months to come. It is not easy, but together each one doing his part and with God as owner of all silver & gold, we can raise sufficient funds to meet all the ministry needs- PRAY!

Wow it is a New Year! 2007 is here!

We are back into business refreshed by the short Christmas break. We hope all of you have had a good time together with family whether in village or in the city.

All our hopes and plans for this year we commit into the capable hands of our living God to work out His plan for this students work at His pace. And it is our wish that as you avail yourselves to support us through prayer, finance and spiritually or emotionally, may you too experience the blessing of being a committed giver and partner in this ministry.

As the famous saying goes, ‘PRAYER CHANGES THINGS’ so let us not give up or shut up, nor just stand or sit there reading this page but START PRAYING! Let the heavens resound with your voices in prayer for this ministry and we will see the glory of the Lord unfold.

FOCUS UGANDA

One of our wishes this year is to see an increased awareness and presence of the work of FOCUS in this country and abroad. One of the key ways you can help us in doing this is by you circulating any FOCUS communication that you receive to as many of your praying friends as possible and let us try and recruit new partners in this ministry. You can start small prayer groups/chains wherever you are specifically geared towards praying for the challenges and needs of this organisation. Talk to people, inform them and educate them on the purpose of this ministry. As Staff, Associates, Volunteers and all Partners, this is our shared responsibility. Take courage and get on with it!

· For practical needs to be met, i.e. we desperately need 5 good up-to-date computers plus printers (a photocopying machine would be a bonus especially for producing training materials). we also need a vehicle to facilitate our transport to various tertiary institutions.

FOCUS MULAGO CHILD PROJECT (FMCP)

FMCP is a big part of FOCUS ministry that gives students and volunteers the opportunity to work with Mulago and the extended surrounding Slum Community. It is a model of holistic mission which means as we evangelize to meet spiritual needs, we should also meet physical needs as we identify them. Every Saturday the FOCUS Center in Kalerwe hosts and caters for the spiritual, physical and material needs of over 150 children from the slum area. This ministry is crucial in socially and morally transforming the community and is a practical way of sharing the message of the gospel holistically. We encourage you to pay a visit and get stuck in hands-on missions.

Please Pray:
· For the Lord to put in place good role models for the children. For Audrey, Ernest & Nelson who are 99% directly involved with the children and parents.
· For pro-activity and enthusiasm in the Parents HIV Support Group to reach out to others in a similar state.
· For recent project graduates to find jobs or create them.

NEW PARTNERSHIPS

One of FOCUS goals is to see students become Godly leaders with a global worldview for the future. Therefore as an organization we seek to provide opportunities of service during which students can cultivate and develop their skills in leadership.

One of such opportunities has been established by partnering with the Norwegian Student Movement (NKSS). Both FOCUS and NKSS have set up an exchange of students for short term mission experience. This arrangement is already in action.

Currently, we have sent 2 students (Prince& Robert) to Norway for 7 months meanwhile we have also received 4 members from the NKSS who will be working on two campuses for the next 7 months. We ask you to pray for this partnership to have an effective and significant impact on both Movements.

VOLUNTEERS:

We thank the Lord for people who are willingly giving their time to FOCUS as volunteers in all the Departments. We are grateful for their support and commitment.

Special thanks for Maureen who is a hard-worker and has given the work with Local Donors a big leap forward.

URGENT PRAYER FOR:

· BOOK AID debt of 8,400 GBP to be paid off.
· 5 good computers and printers for the office
· We need 2.7million UG.SHS. for the upcoming Leadership Conference and pray too for the success of the event.
· Eddie Mukaaya’s health (stomach ulcers), and new visual glasses
· Elaine (Eddies daughter) – has a hole in her heart. One of the valves didn’t close properly. It can be corrected by an operation but she is too young at the moment. Also it is very expensive to pay for heart surgery, so please pray for a miracle. Her healing!

OTHER PRAYER NEEDS:

Training Dept.:
· Need funds for the STEM program and for the staff to be accepted on their campuses.

Support Devt.:
· Wisdom, strength & protection for Esther and Maureen as they visit donors.
· 4 volunteers needed because of the huge work load.
· Strengthening of existing partnerships and for new interest in the organization to be built.
· Sponsors needed for 150 children in the project.

Child Project (MCP):

· For staff to continue being good models to the children
· Impact, salvation and transformation of the more vulnerable children
· Recent project graduates to find jobs or create them.
· Parents with HIV support group to become more proactive and outward looking. That they will reach out to others who are in a similar state of HIV.
· MCP and afew churches are jointly planning an outreach to the Mulago slum community through drama.

Literature Dept.:
· Consistent delivery of consignments of books
· Safe distribution of books across borders
